Since 2010, New Leaders Council Silicon Valley has trained nearly 100 alumni that are committed to progressive change in Silicon Valley. The New Leaders Council (NLC) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young progressives with the knowledge, skills, and network to make meaningful impacts on society. NLC recruits, trains, and supports the next generation of progressive leaders in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
NLC has trained 4,000 emerging leaders since 2005 and has a goal of graduating 10,000 fellows by 2020. NLC Institutes are held annually from January to June in 45 chapters nationwide, from Charleston to Houston, San Francisco to Miami, and Nashville to Boston. The Silicon Valley chapter empowers young progressives by running our own leadership institute, hosting community events, and providing support to its fellows and alumni. Our NLC Silicon Valley Chapter brings together diverse leaders from the fields of politics, tech, government, business, law, and advocacy, tapping our entrepreneurial spirit to build a more progressive community.
The NLC Institute is the premier leadership and professional development program for emerging leaders. NLC Fellows receive the training, mentoring, networking, and career and political advancement assistance they need through a series of high impact weekends each month. From strategic communications, to fundraising, and entrepreneurship to coalition management, NLC fellows master all the skills needed to lead the next generation. Fellows are part of the NLC Family, a community of leaders dedicated to a sustainable progressive movement. Fellows can expect to learn from experts in their fields and just as much from their peers, the other members of the NLC class.
Join the 2017-2018 New Leaders Council Institute and transform your passion into impact. NLC Institute is a 5-month leadership training program that empowers emerging young progressive leaders to make Silicon Valley more equitable, healthy, sustainable, socially just and inclusive.
The NLC Institute is the leading training program for progressive young professionals. NLC equips its Fellows with the skills to run for office, manage campaigns, launch businesses, create starts ups and network with thought leaders. The NLC Institute is an intensive, five-month progressive entrepreneurship training program.
We’re looking for entrepreneurial young professionals, typically 25-35, from diverse backgrounds and industries, with strong progressive values and leadership aptitude, who will apply NLC’s trainings in their careers and lives.
The 2018 NLC Institute begins in January 2018.
The NLC Fellows are successful in their industries, risk-takers, and progressive advocates. Fellows have to commit to one weekend per month for five months in which each Fellow, along with 15-20 of their peers, participates in trainings on the following topics:
Public Speaking and Strategic Communications
Fundraising, Economic Themes, and Diversity
Political Management and Entrepreneurship
Progressive Policy, Advocacy, and Coalition
What is the Cost?
There is no cost to attend if fellows attend at least 4 out of 5 Institute sessions. The first weekend is mandatory. Fellows submit a deposit of $200 at the beginning of the Institute. Upon completion, Fellows can choose to donate to NLC or get their deposit back.
During the Institute, Fellows work on two projects -- their personal Capstone plan to turn their passion into impact, and the Fellows Fundraiser. Each year Fellows host fundraisers to pay it forward to next year's class, and to help New Leaders Council establish and support new chapters.
Applications are due at 11:59pm EST on October 1, 2017. Each applicant may apply to only one chapter.
The application fee is $30. After the application fee is paid, you will receive information on how to complete the written portion.
If you have any questions about the application, please contact email@example.com. If you have questions about NLC Institute with our Silicon Valley chapter, email SVInstitute@newleaderscouncil.org.
