We have much to be grateful for. In 2016, we graduated our sixth cohort, an incredible group of 23 NLC Fellows passionate about building a strong community in Silicon Valley.
The Fellows hosted a fantastic fundraiser, Party for Progress, honoring the following Trailblazers of the Year: Greta Hansen, Good Government Innovator Award, Daniel Garcia, Visual & Performing Arts Innovator Award, Christa Gannon, Criminal Justice Innovator Award, Sarahi Espinoza Salamanca, Tech & Education Innovator Award and Razelle Buenavista, Public Health Innovator Award. Thanks to the support of our NLC community, we fundraised over $11,000 to pay it forward so NLC chapters can continue to provide free leadership training for young progressives.
In November, Lucrecia Rivera (‘16) hosted a fine evening of wine tasting at J. Lohr Winery with alumni. Thank you, Lucrecia! This year we look forward to connecting more with our alumni, so please take a moment to complete this alumni survey by Sunday January 15, 2017.
Our dynamic network continues to grow, and we are so grateful for the hard work of our incredible board to make NLC Institute possible. We thank outgoing advisory board member Peter Allen and executive board members Candace Joy (‘15), Jaki Joanino (‘15) and Grace Kay (‘13) for their dedication to serving our NLC community, and welcome new executive board members Annie Adams (‘16), Paul Escobar (‘16), Mario Lopez (‘16), Lucrecia Rivera (‘16), Dora Maria Silva (‘16), and Christian Valdez (‘16) and committee members Viviane Nguyen (‘16), Christophe Gonzales (‘16) and Matthew Quevedo (‘16).
We deeply appreciate our Selections Committee, Executive Board, Advisory Board, alumni and friends for engaging and nominating NLC Fellows to apply for the NLC Institute. Although we could not accept all of the amazing applicants, we encourage applicants to stay engaged with our NLC community. We hope you will join us at mixers and events. Applications for the 2018 NLC Institute will be open in June 2017, so please subscribe for updates.
We are so excited to welcome 18 new NLC Fellows this January Join us on Friday January 13th to welcome them and toast to the next chapter of the progressive movement at our Welcome Mixer at SoFA Market. While we may face tough challenges in 2017, we are hopeful that with the collective efforts of our NLC family, we will build a strong progressive community in Silicon Valley and throughout our nation. We hope to see you at the Welcome Mixer!
